i don't like your webpage

hi, it’s my first time to share here so i don’t know what i should say and what i should not, but i see a lot of work here from many of you guys most of them is actually sharing their own portfolio and how they make it in on web page, but here it comes my point i think your web page sucks, don’t be offended but let me ask you some questions what is the purpose of the website? how should it perform ? What is the added value? let’s dive on those questions.

first what is the purpose of website ? i would like to take the definition of suckless.org about the web “It has enabled the global information exchange, mass surveillance, studies in social control, allowed revolutions, made a fortune for many billionaires and in the meanwhile ruined our climate: the web.” so how it should do this ? we are not in the 90s where you could set on your pc and wait ton of time to just you 1MB website to load no, we are in a modern era where a website should open in an instant so first, it should load fast. second, it should fit every screen you are not building this for your 69-inch monitor, people are opening your portfolio on a cheap android with a cracked screen on a bad connection(we are in egypt tho..), does it work there? no? then it does not exist.

third, it should work on every browser not everyone is on the latest chrome, not everyone updated anything, if your site needs a specific setup to not fall apart that is not a website that is your problem.

fourth, it should be accessible to everyone blind people use the web, people with slow devices use the web, if your portfolio is a pile of images with no alt text and hover-only effects you just told a big part of your audience they don’t matter, and you did not even notice.

fifth, it should actually say something when you open it, big font, your name, “passionate creative problem solver”, full screen video of nothing, what do you do? who is it for? why should i care? if the site cannot answer that in ten seconds it failed the only job it had.

don’t be offended just think about it why you over complicate it most of your problem you are the one who comes with it, it was simple and should stay simple “Good design is as little design as possible”-Dieter Rams.

at the end i would like to say your website should help people to know you , know an information, share an information ..etc keep it on that track don’t make the design leads you.
